On the Braden River

HOT BUTT SPIDER COMES THROUGH !
I haven’t fished the upper Braden River for about twenty years. So when Dusty Sprague asked me about a freshwater spot to try, I suggested the Braden. We launched at a ramp we used to call Jigg’s Landing on Ward Lake. The last time I was there it was a run-down fish camp, now it is a county park with a nice launch ramp and parking area.
As luck would have it there was a front moving in, 25 to 30 mile an hour gusts. But we decided to try anyway as the ramp is close to the river and protected water. Well, it didn’t take long before the spider did it’s job. I caught a couple of nice bluegill and a bass. We tried some other flies throughout the morning but nothing else even produced a bite. Even though it was a slow day I managed to put about a dozen nice bluegill and a bass in the boat.
The scenery on the river is "Old Florida" and it is quiet during the week.
So, if the freshwater fish aren’t cooperating tie on a “ hot butt spider “ and fish slow and lazy.
Even if the bite doesn’t improve, you can slow down and enjoy the day.
