Fishing Reports
Yes, August is here and the Tarpon have returned to the rivers and back country.
Lynn Skipper had fun with his 10wt outfit on Sunday morning tackling a 50# tarpon in the river.
Tarpon are active at sunrise and snook will be biting at night going into the full moon.

Snook are moving from their spawning grounds back to the estuaries and the river.I have been catching snook at sunrise and sunset at the mouth of the little manatee river. I have also been catching snook and a few nice trout around the docks at night.

Nick and his Dad
It was my pleasure to spend a day on the water, April 11th, with a polite, well mannered young man, Nick Rutsis and his father . In this day and age of video games it was a pleasure to see a young man that apparently spends some time in the outdoors. Nick is a very good fisherman. Nick had won a full day charter with Capt. John Hand at the Flint Creek Outfitters grand opening in Riverview.

Dusty Spraque with a bass on fly
This winter weather has made it tough for fly fishers.
However, patience and versatility pays off.
January 29th I had the pleasure of a visit from Dusty Sprague. Having FFF Master Instructor Dusty Sprague on the front of my skiff is always a treat and a learning experience. Just watching the expertise of Dusty making pinpoint casts into the mangroves is poetry in motion. So effortless, so precise in movement.
Dusty and I tried the flats to no avail, no sun, high winds. So we moved up the river to some small protected bayous and creeks and found few largemouth bass willing to eat.

Fishing Reports

The water is clear, but the trout are biting.
Well, I finished my honey-do list early today so I decided to check out Little Cockroach Bay and the flats south of The Little Manatee River.
I got on the water about 2:30, and was I disappointed! Little Cockroach was full of fungus breaking up, making it a mess. I did spot one redfish and 1/2 dozen sheepshead.
I continued on to the outside flat. It was a westerly wind and an incoming tide. I set up on a silent drift, nice and peaceful until the silence was disturbed by a jet-ski which ran in front of my drift. Now I remember why I don't carry weapons on my boat.
